National Education Policy (1986) acknowledged the important role of teachers in higher
education. During the 7th Plan, UGC conceived the scheme of Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centres to be opened in various Universities. Presently, 66 Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre (HRDC) are situated in various states and Central Universities. They are conceived with a view to plan, organise, implement, monitor and evaluate Academic
Staff Orientation Programmes for newly appointed college and university teachers and Refresher Programmes for senior teachers.
The UGC- Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre of Punjabi University, Patiala was established in April, 2009. It is 60 kms from Chandigarh and just 7 Kms from the Patiala
main bus stand and Patiala railway station. It is an inter-university institute which caters to the needs of all College and University teachers.
Prof(Dr.) Raman Maini, Professor, Department of Computer Science and Engineering is the present Director of the Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre. This Centre has successfully completed 77 Refresher
Courses, 43 Orientation Courses, 19 Workshop/Short Term Courses/Principals Conferences. All these courses acquired national character as the participants were from different states of India viz. Goa, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Nagaland, Shilong, Assam, Kerala, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal, Gujrat, Madhya Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, etc.
Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre is equipped with latest technology, Computer Lab, two lecture theatres fitted with latest gizmos and UGC Malaviya Mission Teacher Training Centre Guest
House has 28 Rooms with in-house catering facility. The Chairman of the University Grants Commission Dr. Sukhadeo Thorat on his informal visit to our HRDC appreciated our enterprise.
